This miserable looking out of the way place is where the Post Office in Preston has relocated to from the beautiful old original PO in the Flag Market.
How anyone finds it goodness knows!!
I liked the red touches here & you can see the hairdressers where Lydia had her hair done at the end of the street.
At the other end of Theatre Street behind me is the back entrance to the old Mount Street Hospital where Harry & I came on our wedding day to visit my grandparents, both in hospital at the time.
All deserted & for sale now.
Just along to the right of Toni & Guys is the famous Brucciani cafe which us Prestonions know well @judithg & @fueast.
Three good things:
1. £1 offers for three months magazines Country Living & Red which I buy anyway for the B&B.
2. 113 builders stage photos of Anthony & Jo's new house which they move into on their return from the UK.
3. A visit from friends this afternoon & hearing all about their holiday in Australia.
Why oh why do they relocate services in out of the way places -- this seem to happen every where --and often great buildings are left empty ! The new building looks quite a bright place and the locals will get used to it in time !! Nicely captured Pat !

Great photo but I know what you mean. ..so sad when beautiful buildings are too expensive to remain in use.
Loved the bit about visiting your grandparents on your wedding day!
A great pop of colour it is a pain when they shift things. I have just shifted back to my hone town after 13 years away and am amazed that so many essential services have changed locations and I am having to hunt for them in obscure places.
Our old post office is a magnificent building, now Council offices! The new post office looks like a garage! Who shoved who" This street is deserted - time of the day or does nobody send mail any more? Is Country Living and Red the same as the English Country Life magazine that I love to read - only in the Library as its too expensive to buy!
@maggiemae no maggiemae Country Life is a separate magazine ......Country Living has been going for quite a long time now & covers all sorts of country matters....Lesley buys it in NZ sometimes but it is a bit pricy hence I was pleased to get three copies for one pound! I buy magazines for the B&B ..well that's my excuse! This is a quiet street partly as its a cul de sac with nothing much down there & of course it was a Sunday. The main road going across the top is called Fishergate & the principle road in Preston. Just further along to the left on that street is the main line west cost railway station.
@happypat Everything closed on Sunday, right! But up there its all go! I used to buy the magazines too for B&B guests. They like to read magazines rather than the books they might have bought!
@maggiemae lots of shops open in the UK on a Sunday maggiemae although with limited opening hours. Personally I think everything should be closed on Sunday's, not for any religious reasons just that it gives people the reason to spend time together & a definate break to the week.
It has an Edward Hopper feel to this - the rich colours maybe. Also your deep focus is lovely. Might have to try Toni and Guy but not sure I can afford them every month! And last time I went half way through I realised I had headlice (going back a bit of course to young children!) - they didn't realise but I was too embarrassed to go back!
Love everything about this shot, the angles, the colour, the clarity all brought together by the cables stretching out at different angles. A really good shot Pat and and a fav
Fabulous image with all the pops of red. I find it sad that the powers-that-be should move the post office to this little out of the way spot. Maybe a sign that post offices aren't used as much today as they used to.
