Today I went on a coach to Lancaster Cathedral for an ordination of one of our young men who has been training for the priesthood.
We are only a very small church membership in Great Eccleston so he is known to us all from being quite young.
I have never been to an ordination before so I found it very interesting.
The music & singing was just wonderful & there was a beautiful buffet afterwards
You can see the new Father John Paul giving his first blessings to the congregation at the end.
I must say the whole thing was rather special & the Cathedral was packed for the occasion.
I was glad I went.
Three good thing.
1. Music & singing.
2. Fellowship.
3. Food I haven't made myself!
What a lovely occasion to attend. I'm sure he welcomed all the support from his local church. I love your shot too - you've got the lighting just right.
@julzmaioro n. Thank you Judith & Julie. I hesitated to put up this shot as its best to keep away from religion & politics but it was such a lovely unexpected day I wanted to put it in my diary. I would feel the same about any churches service such as this.
@willowdragon thanks Al.....I wouldn't call myself a particularly religious person although I like going to church when ever I have time in a Sunday but this was quite uplifting.
So good to see inside this wonderful cathedral! It is so beautiful - those lovely stone arches and timber work in the apse! The congregation all appear to be in the aisles - going up for the blessing probably? It must be catholic?
My sister from NZ is currently now in York and will attend a service today (Sunday) in the Minster! I wish she could photograph that!
@maggiemae yes the congregation were all in the Isles maggiemae ......looks empty but this was at the end when some had already gone. I was nervous getting my camera out until the end!
What a special day and an achievement for him. Not many young priests about these days (though there were quite a lot of handsome ones when I went to Rome - the nuns would never have allowed one of those at school!)
@judithg Mind you the atmosphere in that Cathedral on Saturday....I could be one myself! Not a life for a young man ....I hope he is as happy in life as he was this weekend!
