The beautiful perfume of the honeysuckle reminds me of lovely summer evenings riding on top of a load of hay bales on our way back to the farm yard.
Of course all the bales have to be unloaded again & packed into the barn so the very best bit was the slow ride along the farm land in between the hard work of loading in the field & unloading in the barn.
A chance to lie in your back with honeysuckle in the air.
I was young in those days!
Three good things:
1. My B&B gave us a rather expensive bottle of NZ Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc which retails at just under £20 apparently, I have never tasted one in that price range before! It will be interesting!
2. Fathers Day so thank you to all fathers!
3. Perfume.
1 bad thing!
The TV reception is playing up again!
Beautiful capture of the honeysuckle. FAV. I would swoop two of your good things. At that price for wine I would be temped to dab it behind your ears instead of the perfume.
@julzmaioro Anyone who takes the trouble to make small bales of good hay can sell them for a premium Julz. There aren't many about & the horsey people love them. Usually women looking after horses so they like the handyness.
That's lovely and I love your memory bit! Smells were so big and significant when life was simpler. There was gorgeous honeysuckle at Pitmedden this afternoon!
I used to think music brought back memories, but as I have got older, I think scents evoke stronger memories. Your description of smelling the honeysuckle during the hay season is lovely. Whenever I smell freshly cut/chainsawn macrocarpa timber, it reminds me of my dad.
@happypat Our son often bales small bales of hay. He has people coming from miles away to buy them - and as you said, often horse owners looking for quality hay.
I remember lying on top of the hay - and sneezing but didn't care! A great crop of honeysuckle here - ours is apt to get aphids on it and wither. Most of the NZ wine I have seen around the world, retails for about $20.
The honeysuckle is beautiful and so good to see it growing wild. I'm busy reading The Farm by Richard Benson. I think you'd like it. It says on the cover 'The story of one family and the English countryside.'
@maggiemae Yes I normally pay anything up to £8 but this expensive one retails for around $40 i have just used the converter so much more expensive! I hope it tastes good!
