End of an era

I stood on our outside table & took this photo over our wall.
What you can see is our old cubicle house which used to house all our cows in the winter months.
I can't tell you how much time we spent in this building over the years.
The guy who bought our land & buildings is currently converting the old farm milking parlour & calf building into houses.
Part of the deal is that this cow house is taken down but it's a sad sight for us to see. As usual he is knocking it down himself!
The calf building is on the right & it's looking good & sold. The building on the left is our old milking parlour & collecting yard. That is to be made into a house too.

Our boys in New Zealand will be very interested in this photo.

Three good things:
1. Davis cup excitement this afternoon with Andy Murray winning & squaring the match.
2. Hardly any sleep last night for some reason but I'm not tired today!
3. Homegrown lettice.
Yes - time certainly does march on and times do change! Rather sad, and I am sure a lot of those hours spent in there were good, but many hours just drudgery as well.
If the UK is anything like it is here in Canada, the smaller farmers like yourself have been gobbled up by those farmers who needed to get bigger to survive.
Farming is a tough life, with very little profit to be made so "It's go big or go home". Too bad a living can't be made on a small farm anymore.

Houses, houses everywhere and not a drop of land - that will soon be true!
At least round here where every space is being built upon, can't get a GP appointment for 6 weeks etc.

Such a sad sight Pat. So many memories for you. I think Any Murray deserves a medal. He looked exhausted and still fought so hard. Such a well deserved win.

Well good for the record but ..............I'm sure once the people have moved in it will take on a different perspective .................
Hope he's taking care doing the demolition himself!!!

@farmreporter Yes exactly the same here Wendy, we are so glad we had to retire when our sons went to NZ, wouldn't like to be farming now! We had the best times! I think it's pretty much the same the world over, I know the price of milk solids is down in NZ too. We did have some good times in there & it's sad to see it go this way.

@quietpurplehaze Very true Hazel, we are multiplying too quickly. Loads of houses going up in our village & it's hard to get appointments in the same week. Schools full & you can't park anywhere!

@thistle He's still sitting there watching too, a hero! Hope Dan Evans keeps it up!

@sarah19 Ha ha Sallie, he is a bit gung Ho, if the roof collapses on him it will be a bit dodgy! Yes I don't mind houses there, better than some untidy smelly farmer!! You know what I mean, they aren't all nice & tidy like we were!

@brennieb Yes in deed it does Brenda, Charlie Lansborough, there a chap I haven't heard for a bit!

Aw, sad but hopefully some new friends and memories to be made when the new houses are built.

A scene of destruction. I hope what rises from the rubble will be a scene of beauty!

I am sure that you viewed this today with some sadness mingled with happy memories , but with time when the new neat houses are built you will feel more positive about things I am sure ! The wheels of change keep turning Pat ! A better nights sleep tonight I hope Pat

I think it would be hard to watch this! Imagine if someone was knocking down your childhood home! Fortunately hasn't happened to me! This guy must have a project manager with all that he is planning!

Oh this would be sad to see.. I know our cowshed has had a few revamps over the years , so certainly some history there.. lets hope it is cleaned up well and you have a pleasant view over the fence when you stand on the outdoor table... lol

It must be so sad for you to see it go. Reading the comments above I realize just how crowded the UK is now.
When you think of it the population of the UK is about 65 million and the whole of the UK will fit into Victoria, Australia with a population of about 6 million. We only have a population of about 24 million in the whole of the country.

@maggiemae He is the project manager Maggie, his rule is if you feel like knocking something down today, go do it!
September 19th, 2016
@happypat Sounds like a typical man!
