And the sea comes nearer & nearer....

High tide at lunchtime today.
The river Wyre that bounds our fields below our house is tidal & flows in from the Fleetwood estuary.
You can see where it comes up to if you look at a map & follow the river inland from Fleetwood to where it narrows & that's where we live.
At high tide the river floods all the surrounding fields but thankfully will never reach us up on this hill!

Just along the road at St. Michaels they are busy mending the flood defences along this bank. I pray the river doesn't breach the banks there again.

Three good things:
1. Big coat weather.
2. The first real day of winter weather with rain & strong winds, I like it!
3. Steak & onions for our evening meal.
Your shot does look wintry. I'm making a meat pie with left-over lamb from a casserole - love winter food!

@quietpurplehaze it's great to get off salads etc once the weather gets colder, braising steak time!

Nice shot. Rain and stormy winds here too.

Nice to see over these cultivated fields towards the sea. It would be seawater that would flood those lower areas at high tide? Vegetables grown there would be naturally salted! Going to have steak and onions for our tea too!

@maggiemae Yes sea water Maggie but no vegetables grown on these fields this year. Sometimes there are potatoes but mostly crops of grain or maize.

It looks rather bleak Pat ! after a damp start we have had a sunny day ,nice but for the cold winds !

looks a lovely shot even if the river can be a little menacing !

Wow... it looks pretty close!

So nice to live close to the sea but it must bring in all sorts of nasty weather at times. Don't imagine you have that much protection in the way of trees or hills between you and the sea. But then, the sea probably moderates the temperature as well.

Lovely shot. must be scary for the people living on low ground with the threat of flooding.

Looks cold and bleak Pat. I hope the sun came out! I'm sick of salads now as well. Just want hot food! friend has an orchard and has a glut of apples this year. I've had lots of bramlies to freeze and a have made a couple of varieties of apple soup. it went down well!

@thistle Apple soup!!😧😧

@farmreporter We are about eight miles from the sea Wendy & high up so if we get flooded the whole of the Fylde coast will be under water but I still like to keep a respectable distance from the shore line! We seem to be a lot nearer when the tide makes the river rise so much!

Fabulous moody image, Pat. It does look quite wintry. I'm all too familiar with inland flooding from storms and high tides. I keep forgetting that you are so close to the coast. So beautiful, but not without it's share of tidal/weather related issues.

It must become a way of life to have one eye on the water level during periods of heavy rain. An atmospheric image that illustrates your story well Pat.

You get the feeling in this picture that summer is certainly over!

interesting. How do the crops cope with salty water. We all enjoy the new seasons dont we whether its warm or cold.

@cruiser The water doesn't come over the banks in our fields Chris just on pasture land either side on the next farm on.
