Another holiday shot as I've not even thought about taking a photo lately!
We hung around on this country road waiting for the famous Jacobite train to pass by on its return journey from Mallaig to Fort William.
Had a nice chat to the guy in the photo who had a much more sophisticated camera than I had, he was a teacher on half term.
Almost the last week of the season as it stops running at the end of October, it was lovely to see it steaming last. Every single coach looked full, a great way to see the beauty of the road to the Isles.
Three good things:
1. Pink sky tonight.
2. Bought some Christmas presents for overseas.
3. Left over new potatoes for frying tonight.
It's a great thing go see a steam train.. we have a Vintage Railway near us and it runs over the summer/autumn mo this on Sundays and this weekend ' Thomas ' is coming.. and I will be away.. @dide are on a little adventure...
Nothing better than left over spud ...
It always gives me a thrill to see a steam train -- so many nostalgic memories , of traveling to the seaside , opening the windows ,get covered in smuts !! -- such innocent days ! fav for the memories !!
Fab shot. We saw it a few years ago but haven't ever taken train to Mallaig. Allan did used to go that way when he was small going to visit grandparents in Skye for summer holidays.....train from Glasgow to Mallaig and boat from Mallaig to Portree and then bus to Waternish......no chance of doing it that way now! 😊
It looks like the engine is in the middle! Must be a reason but you would have to access the coal truck from the engine cab somehow! I'll have to investigate this train - never heard of it!
@sarah19 you would go over the bridge now I expect! I havn't used the bridge yet, we went the same way as Allan & the last time by ferry from Kyle of Lockalsh.
@maggiemae the engine had a very long front maggie with the fire box at the front of the area where the driver & stoking man stand. Coal is shovelled in all from the back of the engine area. It's a hot sweaty place!
