We have had family over tonight for pizzas & sticky toffee pudding.
All were very interested in what we had chucked into the skip but were horrified to find a wedding photo of Brian & Lesley in there! In my defence it was very faded & old looking & not fit to put up anywhere but Alex thought I was ruthless! You do get a bit happy slappy chucking stuff in after a while!
Someone asked me a week or two ago what a skip was so here it is, full of rubbish! They will come & lift it onto a wagon & take it away!
Three good things:
1. We have been enjoying Glastonbury specially last night when The Killers were on.
2. Sample pots of paint for touching up!
3. The end of June on the calendar, I can turn over the page to at the moment a much quieter month.
Ohh - you got nobbed! I put old photos of family in a cupboard. There is not enough space to show them. Then I bring them out when those members of the family visit. Glad July will be quieter - June, fun but full on!
The first time I remember getting in trouble for throwing something sentimental away. I was probably three. Mom yelled at me to go clean my room and then yelled at me again when I threw away a valentine card with a big, grey kitten all fuzzy with flocking. She said, “I got you that because I love you and it doesn’t mean anything to you”. So I still fight hoarding. Take a digital picture for memory and toss the faded picture.
@barrowlane Sharp eyes Rob....it’s going rusty, I used it this morning to patch up where we had taken a corner cupboard down, I did notice in b&b they were only six pounds so in it went!
@pandorasecho I’m a bit like that Dixie, if it’s cluttering out it goes but not always easy where to chuck stuff, a skip is fabulous...throw everything in it! You notice that chair, the springs have gone so in it went...we offered it to a lady who dies chairs up but even she didn’t want it!
@maggiemae 8 have so many photos of family...I’ve taken them out of the frames & kept them but frames I dint want are going across the river to the curiosity shop.
@beryl I’m getting fed up with it now Beryl , bedding is next but who wants cotton sheets that have to be ironed!? Cathy’s having a few & I will keep some but the majority will go to the charity shop if they will have them.
Your story reminds me of my sister when we were going through mother’s things after her funeral. She wanted to keep everything, I had to do a lot of talking to get her to realize a lot of items needed to go on their way. Smile. Cleaning out is a massive undertaking! Love your collage, it says it all!
Oh dear .. You got snapped on that one Pat .. should of buried it better .. I am sure they would be able to get you a fresh copy from their album.. better than a faded one.. You would have to be ruthless or you would not make headway ..
One of Kylies claims to fame was when she got back stage tickets to a Killers concert and got to meet Brendon Flowers in person .. and photo's to proove it ..
Oh dear caught in the act. David has restored some old photos by scanning them and then cleaning them up in Photoshop, but it is quite a job. The result is good though.
Chucking out it so hard ... you do have to be ruthless. My husband's mantra is 'if in doubt, chuck it out'! He's a bit too ruthless for my taste, however! I follow him around sometimes, when's he's in a chucking out mood! I now take photos of things I know I have to chuck out, but don't want to. Digital photos take up no space, and the very act of photographing the items helps my psychologically! :-)
I had to laugh at your wedding photo story. A few years ago my sister was throwing out a lot of our late mother's things, amongst them a copy of her own wedding portrait. I was horrified to find it out on the pavement put out for recycling. I saved it, brought it home and phoned her in Australia to ask whether she'd made a mistake. No, no, she said, they just had too many copies of that particular image. I felt a bit sheepish, but have still kept it somewhere in my house.
Glad the photo was rescued, in case no better copies remain as it can be restored. Sad about the chairs, my sister is great at refurbishing chairs and other furniture; she can refurbish or recycle things. I see things (like furniture) like they are and she sees them like they can be.
There is something rather sad to see when all that stuff gets tossed out but it is so good to de-clutter as well. It makes you realize what the important stuff is!
I hope July is a little quieter for you.
