We have an abundance of apples, this is only a small selection. Beautifully red & it’s very tempting just to pick one as you pass by...no way, every single one of them are hard & too sharp.
I have never ever picked an apple growing in our gardens that is actually sweet.
We must be growing the wrong varieties which is a shame because Harry eats loads if apples & I hate buying them when we have all these at home.
Three good things:
1. Lots of cleaning & touching up today. My aim is to pack up the furniture & not have to do hardly any cleaning on the day.
2. The rest of the sponge pudding, this time with ice cream.
3. Some interesting samples on my Kindle. So looking forward to catching up on my reading next week.
They must be cookers Pat -- just think a few more EVE's Pudding s, and Apple pies ! Good luck with your plan re cleaning -- I m sure it will work out !
Applesauce...
There were many places in our neighbourhood where you could pick up apples for free yesterday. Hubby and I decided to pick up some and we cooked applesauce today.
I understand your feelings about buying fruit that grows on your property. We had 7 orange trees and 2 apricot when we moved here 23 yrs ago. We’ve only been able to eat the fruit from 1 apricot tree! The orange trees were planted between 1920-40’s and were too sour! We tried everything to revive them but only the fruit rats loved them- so they were all taken down 4 yrs ago.
We have a Bramley Apple tree which we use for pies etc. A proper cooking apple but these red ones were bought as eaters so it’s very disappointing.
Too late to bother now but doubt we will be planting any fruit trees in new place.
I can't eat half the apples around now even from the shops! My face goes into convulsions with the sour taste. We had grapes too here which were so bitter. All chopped down this year! You obviously don't have wild apple eaters like our possums!
Ha ha ... we got six eating apples from our wee dwarf tree this year. Hubby ate them all - I can't eat raw apple as I'm allergic. No idea what kind of apple they are, but he said they were sweet and tasty. Not red though. I see a few trees in our area with bright red apples, loads of them, but no-one seems to pick them. Probably for the same reasons as you. Someone said they were good in a g&t though. Maybe you should try?! Sounds like you need to relax a bit with one!
They look so tempting Pat. How frustrating to have to go out and buy them. Still you can make sure you have interesting and edible varieties in your new home. Good luck with the cleaning.
