Calmer days

Another lockdown!
Everyone is so fed up with this horrid heartbreaking virus!
I worry so much about the economy & the small businesses that people have built up over the years... many will not survive!

My own opinion, I know some will disagree is that we have to be sensible, police ourselves, stay around your local area, wear your mask, wash hands, & ride it out.

Three good things:
1. Roast potatoes for supper.
2. Two Belgium buns Cathy bought us.
3. The gardening man came this morning to look at what needs to be done!
I definitely agree with you Pat but unfortunately too many people aren't sensible and don't care and need to be told what to do. if everyone had done the things you've mentioned after the first lockdown we wouldn't be in this position now. It makes me very angry. I could have a really long rant but I wont 😂

I agree with you Pat. Beautiful scenery

How nicely colourful. Yes agreed, but all won't unfortunately. And if Boris had gone with the advice to lock down earlier, the sooner we'd be out of it, but always one step behind.

I totally agree with you Pat. This will be so hard for so many. Some will never recover. Compared to others I have no grounds for complaint. Lovely sunny scene. Love those huge rose hips!

I wholeheartedly agree with you Pat , BUT UNFORTUNATELY we have so many people who are far from being sensible and are completely selfish in just doing what they want to do regardless of any rules that should be followed by all ! rant , rant ,rant ,!!!
A lovely scenic view with the bright red rosehips in the foreground - nicely composed Pat

I definitely agree with you Pat.
What a lovely capture!

A lovely image. Lockdowns are so hard on everyone.

@susiemc @bkbinthecity @boxplayer @thistle01 @beryl @gijsje @dide

I think we are having a good rant in our heads! Trouble is will they take notice now...I doubt it....there will always be some that continue to do exactly what they like! 😡

I completely agree with you Pat, despite having just had a short break. However, we observed social distance everywhere we went, wore masks always indoors and also outside in some places and avoided busy areas. Lockdown before half term would have been a good idea! I love your photo, is this the view from your new garden by any chance?

@busylady sadly it’s not Judith, taken on a walk by the Cartford Inn.
To be honest the lockdown doesn’t affect us that much but I see my niece who has worked so very hard building a thriving hairdressing salon up over the last thirty years, she has spent so much money altering it....has lost weight as they are open for longer days & she will have to close again.
The Cartford has spent lots of money altering the inside too....it’s heart breaking.

A lovely scene and composition

Great shot Pat, is this a tidal river?
October 31st, 2020
Oh, it's terrible, I've just listened to the PM speak. I wonder if Scotland will follow suit? Like you, I worry just as much about people in small businesses and in the hospitality sector. However, I think it quite simply comes down to the capacity of the NHS. The whole thing is heartbreaking. A lovely image to cheer us up though - I like those pops of red!

An interesting thread to read and reflect upon. As you know, the US is a heartbreaking mess. Politicizing health measures has brought us down and now the virus is out of control. I envy countries show strong national leadership, but share your frustration that the people bearing the brunt are the small businesses and the essential workers who are seeing the results of lack of common sense among patrons. All so avoidable in the loss at the scale we are seeing. It's so frustrating.

@countrylassie Yes it is Lesley...it ebbs & flows with the tide.

@jamibann Yes they have to protect the NHS. I’m afraid i haven't much faith in these scientists that’s my trouble. One particular one was very prominent in the Foot & Mouth disease & his advice was so wrong & proved wrong. Many more cows were slaughtered unnecessarily just because they were next door to farms with positive cases.... I will never forget the burning & heart break of those times....I shall not believe anything he says!

@taffy You are right & some folk just completely ignore any rules, advice & warnings....so selfish! It’s a terrible thing happening to the world....trouble is we are only guessing what to do...

Pat I absolutely agree about the economy. I am heartbroken for all of the people who have their hearts and souls to their small businesses and now are hanging on by a thread. Here the virus is weaker, not as deadly as the strain in March. Here people who get it lay low at home for a week or do, then test negative and go back to work, etc. in that regard it is just like the flu, we’ve always just lived with the flu, we have to learn how to live with this.

Pretty berries - look a bit like pomegranate. Interesting reading what the others say and on the whole agree. My stepdaughter in Manchester is horrified that the schools are allowed to be open. They were shut for weeks in NZ.

Fav for a beautiful shot. Love the composition and perspective and the pops of red give it an almost summery feel. It’s all been said about lockdown so I shall not comment!
October 31st, 2020
I do agree Lou Ann....I for one also think that schools should remain open. @maggiemae of course this is the problem, no one knows how to handle it...all different views! We are fishing in the dark! @louannwarren

I totally agree with you Pat and I do hope that people pay attention to the lockdown this time. The people who ignore the rules should be fined like they are in Australia.

I have just looked at the statistics and Australia has fared better than some places in the world. To date in Australia there have been 27,590 cases with 907 deaths and our population is about 28 million.

In the UK there have been 1.1 million cases so far with 46,555 deaths and the population of the UK is about 68 million.

Generally here people have been very responsible, we have had the occasional ignoramuses who can't abide by the rules but luckily not too many.

In our local area most people wear masks when out and we have to either have a QR code on our phones or register manually when we enter buildings. I am so proud of the way Australians generally respected the rules and I think that has saved us from more pain.

In the last 24 hours we have only had 10 new cases in the whole of Australia and most of those have been from returned visitors from overseas in hotel quarantine.

I think what helps us though is the fact that we have a large country and are quite spread out.

We can't become complacent because it only takes one irresponsible person for the whole thing to take off again.

Unfortunately, I think this virus will be with us for a while so we all have to behave responsibly.

I really do feel for businesses and the economy it is heartbreaking. When will this madness end I wonder. The health workers and hospitality people especially do such a wonderful job under difficult circumstances.

@onewing Spot on Babs,,,,some people here have just ignored the whole thing plus as you say space is a problem here, we are sort if packed together a bit...terraced houses etc.
I think Australia has been amazing the way they have coped & behaved, NZ of course has done well too but has pretty much closed down & the population & space helps there too. Not so good when they open borders again though. It’s in large cities with big populations where the virus is spreading & now the unis have gone back its rife among the young...they are coping well with it. Us oldies are generally behaving & doing as we’re told but it’s annoying seeing the partying & spilling out of pubs behaviours!
Let’s hope it dilutes itself & it becomes more like a flu epidemic. Vaccine too hopefully!

It's going to be a long winter! We just have to stay as safe as we can and cross fingers that businesses survive!
October 31st, 2020
Lovely scene!
The virus plus our election in a few days has brought us all to the brink!!

Very pretty and love the colours.
Good to be free to express frustrations between friends.

Beautiful capture of the bend of the river together with the plants along the fence. If only everyone obeyed directives, I think we would not be in this tragic situation. As for me, I wear the mask everytime I try to venture out from home and have become afraid of humans other than those of my immediate family.

I like to believe that new business will grow oMaybe I am a dreamer.

Sad news 😞 take care and stay safe Pat 💪

Lovely photo Pat.
We have just had to cancel our break to Edinburgh thanks to the lockdown. I have followed all the guidance but sadly many around us haven't.

@lyndamcg @loweygrace @sarah19 @sangwann @joansmor @momamo @obsidian

A long winter indeed but we are all in it together...we shall carry on doing the right thing & hope it passes us all ASAP. Mustn’t grumble as it affects others far more than us...stay safe everyone!
November 1st, 2020
@obsidian That’s a blow, I know how you look forward to you breaks! Our daughter & SIL were so looking forward to a week in Hawkshead next week...they will have to cancel I think even though it’s their house!
