Nightingale Hospital

Harry went for his nerve test on his hands this morning at the Royal Preston Hospital.
The usual car park was closed as they are constructing a Nightingale Hospital to treat Covid patients.
I think there are many covid cases in the North West but mostly non vaccinated ones plus at this time of the year the hospital is already coping with the usual winter ailments & a shortage of staff due to isolating.
Hope we manage to negotiate these next few weeks safely.

Three good things:
1. We went to M&S while we were out so our favourite stir fry for evening meal tonight.
2. Harry is very choosy about his shirts & has worn the same one for formal suit occasions until I’m sick of the sight of it. He hates a stiff collar but tie shirts need a collar that sits right. We found one today which has a bit of stiffening but looks comfortable. Fingers crossed it suits when he tries it on later.
3. The evenings are so much lighter just in this last three weeks!
It certainly brings home the severity of the covid when we see there Nightingale Hospitals re appearing again ! No time for anyone to be complacent as we do not know who will be the next victim - Hope all went well with Harry's tests , and the shirt will be suitable for his needs !!

I hope Harry gets some relief! That is such a large hospital, it’s kind of unsettling that they are building a Covid hospital. That makes me think we will always have Covid to deal with. ☹️

Interesting. Let's hope things start to stabilise soon.

It is a worry when the extra pressure is put on the existing hospitals and staff.. let's hope numbers start to decline soon. Keep safe.

Let's hope they're not needed

That’s amazing to think a whole hospital is being built for Covid patients. I hope Harry can get some hel for his hands.

I'm afraid that there will be several of these Nightingale Hospitals.

Just when we thought things were improving..we being very cautious still..think theres a lot behind the scenes they don't tell us. Oh dear

Who would have thought they would build a hospital just for Covid.

Hope his tests went ok.
They have been using "covid tents" for a while at the hospital for a&e people who test positive. (Jo is up there regularly with her job)
Sadly, it's both unvaccinated and vaccinated who are being hospitalised according to a friend who works in ICU.

@albailey Is it really Al…..vaccinated ones too…perhaps they have underlying factors…..don’t think it’s going to be a proper building is it? expecting more of a temporary one.

@happypat Yea ... too many people think the vaccine stops you getting it when it doesn't. It gives you a better chance of not being hospitalised. Some in hospital have caught it there too.
Jo has to take daily lateral flow and week pcr tests. Her place is in a bad way and more and more people are testing positive. I worry as I can't have any more vaccines due to my reactions so I am doing regular tests as well.
The tents have been temporary and this is going to be the same apparently. The big worry is they don't have the staff to man it.

@albailey My son in laws niece is a sister on A&E & she is pretty exhausted after twelve hour shifts…..how long can they keep going I wonder! The daycare centre was deserted strangely…..Harry never saw one other person.

Such a shame they weren't able to use the Nightingale hospitals the first time round. I wonder if it was lack of eqiupment of lack of people to staff them? Sounds like you have a man like mine who doesn't like to try on things at the shop! Hope it fits!

I had to find out more about that name - seems 'nightingale' is just a temporary hospital? It really is bad over there but worse in France. I have to hide John's clothes so that he won't wear the same thing for months!

Nice shot

@maggiemae Ha ha maggie, the shirt I’m talking about he likes to wear with a suit so quite rarely really these days but he certainly is overdue for a new one he actually likes! The new one is a plain pale blue.

@busylady I ever really knew what actually happened to the original Nightingale hospitals, as @albailey says the problem will be staffing them.
January 7th, 2022
@happypat One of the biggest issues was limited critical care staff available to staff them. My Nephew was involved in the project management of the London one and I think it ended up treating less than 100 patients in the end.

hmmm Pat , a pop up hospital with no staff to run it . We are still in a difficult place , Stay safe

I really like your PoV here with the long sight line along the ditch. It's an impressive sky over the hospital as well.
I also am noticing the longer days. So nice to see!

Unsettling times
January 8th, 2022
Too many covid cases but at least few deaths - means the vaccination is doing its work.
January 8th, 2022
@farmreporter it was the nearest I could get as there is a big bank there…..I could have climbed up but it’s next to a very busy road so was embarrassed! The ditch is actually a pathway from the hospital over the road to the supermarket……it was blocked off.

@maggiemae Yes the Nightingale hospitals are temporary ones specifically to deal with covid cases. Not sure if this one will be fir that reason, I expect so but our NHS is always overloaded at this time if the year without covid cases. They are named I presume after Florence Nightingale the famous Crimean War nurse.
We are living with covid at the moment which is what we need to do…..hopefully by the end of this month things will be looking better, the backlash from Christmas & the NY when we were all celebrating will hopefully have passed.

Interesting to see a hospital going up! Our numbers here in Alabama, USA are increasing, as well, mostly of unvaccinated folk!
January 8th, 2022
Staffing will be the biggest problem. We were short on nurses before all this began!
