New roads

On my walk yesterday I made sure I went to look at the new housing development over the road!
On beautiful green fields we now have this monstrosity!
Building over 300 new houses nearly doubling the size of Great Eccleston.
I know it’s not just us & we do need more housing but the houses are all the same & mostly over £300.000. A few social housing tucked in the back somewhere.

There is supposed to be a new health centre, school & mini supermarket but they always leave the infrastructure to the end …if at all…….they should be made to build it first!
I think we can all have a good grumble about this but what’s wrong with the original terraced houses or even low double story apartments?
Far more affordable for young couples to start out in.
We have grown our hedge up plus it’s low lying so won’t really affect us.
We can hear the noise of building though at the moment.
Strange to see tarmac roads on their own,
Yes it's happening everywhere.. characterless homes with no parking and narrow roads.. 😦

Some housing developments are well thought out and don't look bad, lets hope that's the case with this one.

Oh I'm with you all the way - endless building of huge towers near us and nothing affordable - and yes you need the amenities too

I feel your pain Pat.

This what they call progress
July 22nd, 2024
Oh no. Its happening all over. We have a lot of house building here in Cambridgeshire. Our town is expanding all the time, along the edges, but not near us

Sounds like a huge development. Houses seem reasonable there compared to here! Our kids just bought a small plot of land for $335000 Canadian!! That's no house!!

Oh no. What a shame. Progress can sometimes be an eyesore can't it. I don't get how all the houses are going to be the same. Reminds me of the old song "Little Boxes" The good thing about our area is that plots of land are sold separately, and all the houses are different.

I can empathise with you from my past experience Pat. Very soon we can not refer England or even the UK as the green and pleasant land !
July 22nd, 2024
Sorry you re losing green spaces.
July 22nd, 2024
It’s a problem all over and there is no good solution. I’m afraid Beryl may be right about our green and pleasant land.
July 23rd, 2024
We have the same problem but your beautiful green landscape make it so sad.
July 23rd, 2024
It is always sad to see new subdivisions gobbling up good farmland.

Such a difficult subject, and yes the same in lots of places. Ballater is expecting a new housing development in the future and there's a lot of controversy surrounding it.

Same thing is happening here and annoyingly the new Govt is removing anyone's ability to object to such things.
July 23rd, 2024
I agree with everything you say. We can't change the world - it seems to be universal - more houses for people to buy even though they can't afford it!
July 23rd, 2024
@kwind Yes that sounds expensive but funnily enough land is more expensive here so you can deign your own house & not boxes squashed together with small back gardens. They pack as many houses on a small area as they can sadly.
July 23rd, 2024
@casablanca Yes they are! It’s a worrying look at the future!
July 23rd, 2024
What a story telling image and story!
July 23rd, 2024
Interesting
July 23rd, 2024
@casablanca
Oh Casa, that’s awful!!!
July 23rd, 2024
That must be awful for you. We have seen Malta devasted with apartment blocks these last 10 or so years. Close to my house they are building apartments at prices starting from €400, 000.. All Maltese have shown anger but buildings continue to be built ruining our environment.

We're losing so much of our green space. We have new housing estates going up all around us, no infrastructure though
July 23rd, 2024
@onewing They are all of a similar type Babs. They might have one wall white or a slightly different shape at the front but basically a variation of each other. Starting at £300 ish up to nearly £500,000. Some affordable housing shoved in somewhere.
July 23rd, 2024
@sangwann The same all over the world it seems. Too many people & all moving north!
