For Diana

Diana asked me if I would post the lady from Spakenburg in her traditional dress in colour so here it is.
As i posted yesterday, because of the heat she left the sleeves at home, but normally the would have the same pattern as her apron and the are always short (to the elbow)
It looks nice and cool and made of cotton.

@casablanca yes they make everything from cotton but they had always many layers of that shield she is wearing is also made of cotton but heavily starched and they have to iron it every day to keep it firm.

Thanks Jacqueline, a lovely shot. It certainly looks very different from what I imagined. What is the shield good for, it looks very heavy somehow?

Mooi

@ludwigsdiana The weight is not so much a big square of cotton with lots of starch. In the last century this ‘kraplap’ got bigger and wider in Spakenburg. A sort of fashion statement.

@tstb13 Dank je Tina

lucky that she could just leave the sleeves off - that's handy!

@koalagardens Yes it is..........but everything is pinned together or she uses ribbons. As the do it for the last hunderd years.

Love traditional clothing, great capture.

@kgolab Thanks it is a pity that those traditions die out.

@jacqbb It certainly is sad. But by capturing it as you have it can be preserved in more than just memory :)

@kgolab That’s right. Thank you again.

Very interesting

Thank you Margaret. It’s a pity that only the old people wear the traditional clothes, so the custom is slowly dying out

It is good to know that these traditions are being kept alive by people like this.
But I'm also so glad we no longer wear these traditional clothes though - they do not look very comfortable!

@farmreporter Very true, i’m glad that there are other people who keep this kind of traditions alive. Thank you for your comment.
