Burns Day by jamibann

Burns Day

Robert Burns, the Scottish bard, was born on the 25th January 1759, in a two-roomed clay-cottage built by his father in the village of Alloway. Traditionally, Scots around the world celebrate his birthday at Burns Suppers by eating haggis, drinking whisky, dancing and reciting some of his poetry.

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne !

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne.

This book of Burns’ poetry was a Christmas gift, given to my grandfather in 1942 by my dad and his older sister. The rug underneath the book is my family tartan - Ancient McDuff. The thistle, I’m afraid, is artificial. Happy Burns Day !
wow, this is really great!

Love your composition and light here, the textures of the old book, and the tartan background. A lovely tribute to a great poet. I love the CDs Jean Redpath has made of Burns songs.

Thanks for sharing that. I wasn't aware he wrote Auld Lang syne. Lovely composition and shot.

I love your atmospheric shot. Is that a thistle? I once was a joint winner in the whisky tasting competition at a Burns night do - and I hate whisky!
January 26th, 2014
Really great composition to honor Burns.

Hope you had a good celebration -- the photo is a lovely homage to him.

Such a lovely and fitting coos idiom, so lovely you celebrate, once a scot always a scot. We have haggis tonight!

@pixiemac @mtpagano @sansjuan @randystreat @northy @paintdipper @bristolrose @anazad511 @taffy @lucypics Thanks everyone! I have to say we were sorely disappointed with our haggis ... almost inedible. But the tatties and neeps were delicious!
@busylady I'm afraid the flower is artificial Judith - although it's supposed to be a thistle! You did well to taste whisky (and win!) if you don't like it - I'm the same, I can't even bear the smell! However, the men in my family make up for me, they all like it plenty!
