They say that today there are 365 varieties of cheese in France - one for every day of the week. Some argue that there are actually more than that.
In 1962, French President Charles de Gaulle was famously quoted as saying "Comment voulez-vous gouverner un pays qui a deux cent quarante-six variétés de fromage?" ("How can you govern a country which has two hundred and forty-six varieties of cheese?")
However, I can only vouch for the fact that there is a lot of cheese in France, and this is a photograph of a very small selection at our local market.
While not inexpensive even there, it doesn't take a lot of 4-5 varieties and an ample bottle of wine, some crackers & fruit to make a lovely supper that doesn't even have to be eaten at the dinner table! I envy you the variety, and the photo presentation is wonderful!
...So as not to spoil the secret early, my friend, Melody in the back had to leave before the photo shoot. I snagged a photo of her when we were at the lunch table, adjusted the size of her head to fit with the proportions of the group and photo shopped her in... I learned a lot about doing this when were recently learned how to add a different sky... Thank for asking and it makes me feel good that the alteration wasn't hugely obvious :)
@Weezilou It wasn't at all obvious that you had changed anything in your photograph. I only looked because you mentioned that you had 'done' something, and I guessed that if you had added a person it had to be the lady at the back! Well done - good work.
@lyndemc My grandmothers lived in Verdun, Quebec. Whenever we'd go visit them, they would buy pastries from a French bakery. Mille-Feuilles were always in those boxes of goodies. I loved them.
@lyndemc Life is good Denise; we are spoiled. I do however still miss lots of aspects about my 'previous' life in Houston. But, never look back and never regret. Onwards and upwards!
@randystreat Oh yum! I'm tickled to know that Mille-Feuilles is still something that's on the menu. I hope to enjoy it again someday. Thanks for the share, Kathy.

I recall falling in love with a dessert called Mille-Feuille while I was in Europe. Is it something you see in the shops or eateries around you?
