Today is our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We've had quite a journey, living in many different countries, since we married in a small registry office in Aberdeen, Scotland, back in 1991. He has always remained constant though ... he still loves his fishing and his rugby! ;-)
To mark the occasion we're going out to a Michelin starred restaurant tonight, called 'Le Violon d'Ingres'.
There are so many restaurants in Paris to choose from, but I chose this one because I met the owner's wife at a charity lunch a few months back. She was the most unassuming lady from Liverpool, England. We got on well and chatted away, and as we chatted, she told me that her husband was French, a chef, and that they ran a restaurant together. She never, ever let it slip that they have not 1, not 2 but 3 restaurants in the same street in Paris (and others elsewhere in France), and that one of them, 'Le Violon D'Ingres', is a Michelin starred restaurant. She also told me that she met her husband on the QE2 when he was running a training course on board. They had a bit of a fling, and then she left the ship in San Francisco, thinking she would never see him again. However, there followed an earthquake in SF and as he knew that she was there, he called her to make sure she was ok. Their story started there ... and it was such a lovely story and she was such a nice lady that I vowed to go the restaurant at the next opportunity. So, when I got home, I googled the name, to find that her husband is quite the celebrity in Paris - Chef Christian Constant. http://www.maisonconstant.com/en/chef-constant/
I'll give you a report back on the meal tomorrow! :-)
@peterday Ah Peter, we support many teams! Hubby was brought up in Northern Ireland, although he's actually Scottish. So, he supports Ireland and Scotland in 6 Nations Matches. I just support Scotland. He also supports Ulster and we both support Glasgow. And, because we've spent so many years living in France, 5 of them in Pau, we both support 'La Section Paloise' - who were promoted to the Top14 this year, and who look as if they're going to survive without falling back down to the ProD2 - not always easy! So, you see, there are a lot of rugby matches to follow ...
Congrats on the 25 years.. we just gone 40.. look forward to hearing about the restaurant review.. Pleased to hear it is rugby that your Husband follows..
What a great story about Monsieur and Madame Constant - I've bookmarked their restaurant in case we find ourselves in Paris in need of a good recommendation - our niece lives there. Happy Anniversary.
@jocasta Super! The three Parisian restaurants are all in the same street - rue st dominique. Violon d'Ingres is Michelin starred, and you can book, Les Cocottes is more of a bistro style, you can't book, but it opens at 6.30 pm I think, and people queue for the opening. Then there is Cafe Constant which is a coffee shop from what I can gather. I will be better informed once I've been there tonight though. :-)
Congratulations on your 25th Anniversary Issi - sounds like you have a good one there!! LOL!! Enjoy your celebration tonight. That restaurant sounds wonderful - just love their story!! Fav!!
Happy Anniversary, Issi! Two beautiful love stories here! Wonderful photos! :-) Thank you for including the link...I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Chef Constant and his restaurants. Looking forward to reading about your experience at 'Le Violon d'Ingres' . . . and hopefully some photos! :-)
What a lovely story, yours and hers... so nice to be celebrating your relationship after 25 years together. A Michelin * restaurant is a perfect setting! Very nice.
Wow...congratulations and Happy Anniversary!! Terrific photos of the two of you. And what a neat story about the restaurant. Look forward to hearing about it. And here is to the next 25!!
What a wonderful story! And it should be a great anniversary. Ours is in a few days -- 1st anniversary technically, but together 36 years! Slow to make decisions, clearly! And as is typical, we're still trying to decide how to celebrate.
What a lovely romantic story!
