Filberts by jamibann

Filberts

Filberts from our tree - discovered quite by chance last year - I didn't know about them! I'm allergic to them if I eat them raw, but if I roast them in the oven, it's fine! I picked up a few windfalls this morning. Looking forward to more later in the season.
What a lovely composition , and I really like all those deep red colours

Wonderful capture! Excuse my ignorance, but what is a filbert?

@gilbertwood It's like an elongated hazelnut. I had never heard of them before I discovered I had a tree in the garden!

@jamibann Definitely a new one for me! Don't think hazelnuts grow much here in Australia either. Thanks for the info :)

@pennystot Just like hazelnuts! I don't these are ripe enough to eat though - they've fallen down in the wind. I seem to remember September is the best month for them.

@darylo Very interesting! Thank you. We have cob nuts in the south of England, but they are definitely a little different from the filberts - in shape if not in taste!
