We passed this yesterday morning on our way to the airport. I have no idea what it is though. It's not manure. It looked like wood cuttings, or perhaps cuttings from maize. In any case, it was noticeable because of the steam rising from it. Better viewed on black. Any ideas as to what it might be?
@dide Thanks Dianne, I bet that's what it is. No smell, but in close proximity to the maize fields, and it looked like bits of maize plants. I've never come across that before.
The steam rising off it makes the whole scene quite atmospheric. I have no idea what it might be although Dianne is probably correct. We often see similar piles around after the grape harvest. They are usually the stems and leaves that have been removed by the crusher and destalking machinery before the grapes go into the fermentation tanks. Those piles also steam rather a lot
Thanks for the warm welcome back, Issi. It's wonderful to be here again. The "Noooooo" you typed on my finally picture of last year has rung in my heart since I departed, calling me back, I want you to know. :)
One couldn't help but wonder what these steaming piles are made of. The steam gives the heaps a sense of being alive!
