The highest point in the city of Paris. Designed by Paul Abadie. Begun in 1875, finished in 1914.
I headed into Paris this morning to do my tourism before the crowds. It was very cold, but a beautiful sunny day. I caught the last of the sunrise at Montmartre and went to see two exhibitions of Bernard Buffet's work (at Montmartre and also at the Museum of Modern Art) and finished off by climbing up the Arche de Triomphe to finish my day.
@squamloon Yes, I can assure you that when it's cold like today, 9am is early enough! I switched this to b&w because the colour was just too 'bright'! A deep blue sky against the white of the basilica and it just didn't look right, although it was exactly as I saw it. I felt the b&w did it more justice. Lovely video - I wish I'd been able to be that high up! I never tire of the Montmartre area of Paris. More to follow over the next few days.
Oh Issi, I'm reading and thinking , "Wow...how wonderful...and WOW! You got to do that, too! And THAT also!" Lucky hardly covers it! You're a smart lady to take advantage of what you have so nearby! The most clever tourist would be envious!
@Weezilou Thing was, I should have been cycling, but temperatures were too low, so I suddenly had all this time to spare. Nothing for it but to hit Paris ...
@parisouailleurs J'ai adoré! Les deux expos. Différent mais complémentaire. C'est un artiste que je ne connaissais pas, alors la découverte rendait mes visites encore plus agréables.
Nice view. Like the black and white.
