Nothing too special about this image, except that I've been trying to capture one of these guys for some time. I know from experience that to open a window or a door to get a good shot is a waste of time - they are gone by the time I get my hand on the handle. They sense movement - even from indoors! However, yesterday, I was sitting having lunch and I looked round to see two of them, two of them, hanging out on the cherry tree. I sat watching them, motionless, for ages, all the while thinking - 'is it worth going to get the camera?' Thinking that they'd be gone the second I moved. Anyway, they sat for a while, so I got up, stealthily, and grabbed my camera from another room, attached the zoom lens, sneaked back, crawled along the floor so they wouldn't see me ... and got this shot of one of them through the glass door in the lounge. It's not perfect, but I'm happy to at last get a shot that's not just a motion blur of him leaving the premises! And I believe it is a 'him' because of his red 'moustache'.
Oh well done Issi! I have been trying to get a good shot of a green woodpecker for years! They are so skittish and are off at the first breath of movement! Normally I never see them at all but hear their call like mad laughter! Very jealous if this wonderful capture! Fav!
I also have a fabulous vision of you crawling across the floor with your camera! We have all been there! Lol!
A green woodpecker!! Fabulous capture, Issi! It's so frustrating when they fly off just when you have them fixed in your viewfinder. Love your narrative. :-)
As perfect a composition as I can imagine. The colors bring it all together and the bird is framed so well by the other natural elements. I think it's quite special.
I have only seen a woodpecker once in our garden, some years ago so I don't think I will have much luck trying to get a photograph. I also don't hold out much luck getting a shot of you crawling on the floor
