I received this beautifully hand written envelope in the post a few days ago from Galerie Jacques Lacoste in Paris. Enclosed was a photocopy of a drawing and plan of a hand-made chair. The writer of the letter had found my name in the 'yellow pages' and was hoping that I might know something about the 'Mr Bannerman' who ordered this chair in 1962 in Paris. The chair was designed by Jean Royère, and the writer of the letter was putting together a catalogue of work done by this designer. Sadly I couldn't help in any way, as we have no relations in France, nor did we ever, but I thought the letter was intriguing. Perhaps an elaborate hoax, but I don't think so.
Definitely not a hoax, they're a bona fide gallery (Jean Royere is listed as a createur) and, since this is a photography blog, their website has some excellent interior decor photos which are well worth a look! http://www.jacqueslacoste.com/fr/
So interesting! As Sarah commented...this sounds like the introduction for an interesting novel. You have a lovely first name...Isobel. I've noticed that Peter Day uses that name quite often in his comments. :-)
Just kidding. But it IS intriguing. And very cool.
