Robin Hood or rogue? Who knows. Opinions differ on the history of this chap, poised on the rocks as you enter the village of Peterculter. I often pass by, but yesterday made a point of stopping to take a photo of this well known Scottish legend.
A model of him has been here, on the rocky bank of the Culter Burn, since around 1850. Legend has it that he leapt across the stream in pursuit of Hanoverian troops right where the statue stands today.
This is a new statue of Rob Roy, the previous one having been removed in July 2016 - the Scottish weather having taken its toll.
Forgive me for lack of commenting. I'm just back from Scotland and heading off to join my son for 3 days skiing in the French Alps tomorrow. I'll maybe get some commenting done on the train down to Moutiers.
Haven't passed that way for a while. The excavations for the new AWPR are astonishing near Peterculter!! Enjoy skiing and hope your friend was okay in Paris. The statue in your photo in the river Seine was on the news a couple of days ago.
So interesting! I love learning all about Scotland through your photos and narratives! I discovered online there was a Walt Disney movie made in 1953 about the wartime adventures of Rob Roy MacGregor and a biographical historical drama film in 1995 starring Liam Neeson as Rob Roy McGregor. I think I'll see if that one is available on Netflix. :-)
Have fun skiing in the French Alps with your son! You lead quite an exciting life, Issi! :-)
@gaylewood Thanks Gayle! You’ll need to tell me if you do find the film! Don’t think I’ve seen it! Just waiting for my son to arrive. He’s boarding over the hill from Val Thorens where he’s been skiing with friends the last 3 days.
