I wanna tell you a story ... as Dave Allen used to say.
This church is right across the road from our house in Ballater, and my mum used to play badminton in the hall when I was a young girl. It was sold many years back and turned into a restaurant and B&B, named 'The Auld Kirk'. I loved the restaurant and when we bought our house here, 9 years ago, I was very excited about having this top class restaurant across the road. Imagine my disappointment when I learned that due to ill health of the chef, that they'd closed the restaurant to focus on the B&B only. Then, wait for it, a couple of years ago, they decided to re-open the restaurant, but just for lunches, coffees & teas. I was once again delighted to have this cool café just across the road from us, and took full advantage recently whilst we sorted out the mess that was our home. Well, guess what, the café has closed again, and it's back to B&B. I am gutted! They had the best cakes and tapas in town! Ah, well, my waistline will no doubt be the better for it not being there. :-(
Neat way to compose this - and what a back and forth history to the place. There's always hope it may once again re-open with the restaurant - sounds like that would do well with a b&b.
