We went to Shetland to see the Lerwick Up Helly Aa 2019 Festival - hence my lack of commenting and posting over the past few days.
My mother was a Shetlander, so this was not our first trip, but it was our first Up Helly Aa. It was a bit of a nostalgic trip, as we went with my brother and his wife. What a time we had, with the most wonderful winter weather. Here is my brother, taken on a walk around The Knab in Lerwick, the day before the festival.
@lifeat60degrees We had an amazing time and were so lucky with the weather - I know it's not always like that. Hubby (it was his first visit) wants to come back for some fishing. So, who knows, maybe a photomeet could work then! A puffin (or two) is on my photo list.
@casablanca Aw, thank you! Been catching up with chores today as I had my brother and SIL with me yesterday - our Shetland flight home was ... wait for it ... 8 hours late ... so they missed their connection to London and so they came home with us. I took them back to the airport last night (in the snow) ... so today was shovelling snow, the wash, and yes the sorting through 800+ photos!
What a gorgeously composed image, and all the more special because your brother's in the picture. Your trip sounds like it was a wonderful one, despite the delayed flight.
Such a beautiful photo! Beautiful light and a lovely for you to have your brother as your model! I have never heard of this festival - it sounds and looks fascinating! That’s a part of the world I would love to explore!
