This was actually the view I stopped for yesterday on route to my dad's - when I got sidetracked by the icicles on the edge of the river. The iconic Bridge of Dee which was used for the backdrop for Prince Charles and Lady Di's Engagement photos, back in the day.
The hills are beautiful at the moment, covered with the first snow of the season, and the sky was deliciously blue. I didn't manage to get a shot I liked in colour. Either the white of the mountains was blown out, along with the sky, or the trees and river were too dark. Any hints on how to deal with this type of photography - other than turning it into a B&W?
Brrrr.....that is wintery already......the closest snow has got to us (so far) is Oakhampton...the other side of the Cornish border with Devon.......they can keep it !
I don't know how to do what Richard suggests, but it sounds correct and a very useful tip. I would take the image with less sky in it and more foreground and crop if need be. The camera is reading the difference in light levels between front and back and freaking out! So give it less of the over exposed area (ie sky) and more water and bridge and then crop it for balance if necessary.
Nice layers and details, looks very cold!
I understand what Richard means but tend to take the easy option of Snapseed which is on my iPad and gives a hdr filter.
Beautiful....
This November snow is too soon!
Though years ago we sometimes had November snow and then not much for the rest of the winter.
Somehow I'm not sure if this is likely any more. Patterns seem odd!
Fantastic tonal range and layers..one think you could try in LR is
to decrease the highlights and decrease the white or simply shoot under expose and bring up the shadow detail
@vignouse Oh, that sounds like it should work ... I'd have to learn some new skills though. Maybe I should set myself that as a challenge for next year! Thanks, Richard.
