This is a temporary installation - a 175m tall (using 4,000 metres of jute) portrait on a hillside, about 25 miles from our home in Ballater. It was designed by Perthshire artist Martin McGuinness in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Tayside poet Hamish Henderson's birth. The portrait faces Ben Gulabin where Henderson's ashes are scattered.
I had heard about it, but only learned on Saturday that it was temporary and would be dismantled today! So, hubby and I headed over there yesterday to see the image - which is very impressive. Unfortunately, the weather was not. However, whilst we were there we took advantage of hiking up to the top of the hill, Bad An Loin, where the installation is situated. It would have been rude not to! And, Ben Gulabin is now on our 'walks to do' list for when the weather improves a little. :-)
fascinating capture :) At first i thought it was a photoshopped face on the hills - but then i read your comments - so impressive, and yes you had to go and see it :)
