This little fellow sits on my office bookshelf, engraved with the words 'Most Popular Visitor to Alwyn 1989-91'.
Before I got married, my job was in Public Relations, and involved organising PR visits to the Aberdeen area, escorting Total's (mostly French) visitors, and giving technical tours of the company's installations in the North Sea. At the time there was MCP-01 (a compression platform, now decommissioned), St, Fergus Gas Terminal (no longer operated by Total) and Alwyn North (newly operational at the time, and Total's showcase platform). I loved this job and was gutted to have to leave it - even if it was to get married and go to live in Indonesia with my new hubby.
Anyway, when I left, I was presented with this 'thing' from the boys on Alwyn - made from old bits and pieces found around the platform. Not sure what it is - a haggis, a sea creature, or me with my hair blowing in the wind?! Regardless, I love it and it still has place of pride in my home and reminds me of those days of hard work but much happiness.
Such a personal gift ....something more usual & practical wouldn't have given half the pleasure. They obviously gave lots of thought & love to make this quirky little face.....unique to you alone!
