We headed for the hills yesterday as the forecast is pretty bad for the weekend. We thought we'd discover a new area. We set out from Corgarff Castle and did a circuit of various lowish-level hills. It was a mixed weather day - a bit of rain, a bit of wind and a bit of sunshine, as you can see here. This estate house made a good spot for our afternoon coffee stop and I set the camera up on a fence post to take this shot. It was only an hour's walk from here back to the car, so we felt we could relax a bit. The shorter days put more pressure on you to get back to lower ground in a timely fashion - you don't want to get caught out!
Love this! And love how you make such good use of every day you can to explore the awesome environment around you.
I'm curious....do you write about where you've been and what you've seen as well as having your photo record.
Yesterday was so gloriously sunny here.
In actual fact, we see this sort of stone wall in old cottages around here! The settlers who came were mainly scottish! I really enjoy the descriptions which come with great photos like this!
You look so organised...must be well practised by now of course! I too wonder if you take notes in the evenings when you get home....you two could be another Alfred Wainwright! Yes the light will be so important!
I love how you take advantage of your environment and how professional you two look -- like travel guides in the wilderness! And the composition is terrific.
@sarah19 I don't write about our adventures in the hills, but I do keep notes. I also label the photos well, so I know where we've been and when. And we use a highlighter to mark the routes done on our OS maps too. When we were out the other week, I told hubby we'd walked the track before - but he had no recollection of it. I then saw a funny piece of tree and a big stone and remembered I'd taken his photo there. He also had no recollection. When I got home, I looked through my photo files and map files and there was the photo - taken almost a year previously, to the day, and the perfect proof that he had indeed been on that track before! :-)
@happypat Yes, I note names of hills and details of the walks - otherwise they'd all become a blur. We also carry head torches in case we ever get caught out at the end of the day!
A beautifully composed picture. I really like the simplicity of the stonewall, uninterrupted by windows or doors - a perfect backdrop for your ‘take a break’ portrait.
