Here Lived Herman Millamed

I found this brass plaque, embedded in a pavement in Oslo to be very touching. There were several of them in this area of the city. Herman was born in 1866, deported to Auschwitz in 1942 and was killed on 1st December, 1942. Such a waste of a life.
Very touching. He won’t be forgotten.

Must have been a real jolt to the senses to suddenly come across this

It's a good thing that someone thought enough to remember him, and probably others, so that we wouldn't forget the atrocities that occurred.

A sober reminder that humanity can sink to such depths....And also to grab life by both hands....

This reminds me of the monument to victims of the Holocaust I discovered at the center of a little plaza in Rhodes. The day was sunny and bright and the black monolith stood out as a testimony to the entire Jewish population of this Greek island who were taken from it, never to return. We think it will never happen again, but truth is, it has and will. There should be plaques like this world round and children should be taught what they mean. Sad but moving photo.

After so many wars, people said "never again." But this seed is still germinating.

A stark reminder of the atrocities of the war - and it touch so many countries world wide. A treasured memorial and find.
