The Redwing on the Rowan by jamibann

The Redwing on the Rowan

I had great amusement on Friday watching a flock of redwing come into our garden and completely decimate the rowan tree. Every berry was gone! A lot dropped on the ground, right enough, but not one berry left on the tree. Hard to imagine when you see how many there are in this photo!
We have flowers on our rowan tree. No colour but future promise of those lovely red berries

You caught the Redwing with the berry in its mouth…..made a lovely capture even more special. Our cotoneaster…well next doors still has all the red berries on it….I’m sure rowan berries are much more tasty!

That's an awful lot of berries that were picked off. I've never heard of a rowan tree

Good thing you caught the photo when you did. I love how the bird is framed by the branches.

@terryliv No? Otherwise known as Mountain Ash. They're a native tree in much of Europe. They used to be planted at the entrances to houses in Scotland to keep the witches out!

@happypat Yes, but I did have to take about 70 photos to get a few good ones! :-)

Wonderful colours! I'm guessing friends of your birds have been here recently as not a berry in sight on our rowan tree .... we've been away a lot so hadn't noticed the change until now!
