I was out taking some local photos the other day, (before the floods) for use in a quiz at our Golf Club ladies section Christmas Lunch. The idea is that we ask people 'where' and 'what', with bonus points for extra information. A lot of them are taken on or around the golf course. Trees, signs, items, but taken from a particular angle, or POV. Other images are original items in the village, like clocks, engravings, house numbers, etc. It'll be interesting to see how observant people are. However, one slight problem - I tested it on hubby and he says it's too difficult - he only recognised about 5 out of 20! So it's with a fellow committee member at the moment, so she's going to test it over the weekend and let me know if I need to make the pictures easier to recognise! Plenty time to do that though, as the lunch is on 9th December.
A long story to say that I took this whilst I was out looking for those images. I haven't included this one as it was a little too easy ... but I liked the flashes of red and the dire warnings for walkers going onto or around the golf course!
Fascinating quiz .
When visiting Laura and family in Melbourne we drove to a large fully fenced golf course where many kangaroos lived happily. ..but Iain had to find another place to walk with Zinc as dogs were not allowed at all!
We had a similar quiz at our local U3A a few years ago. We were shown pictures from our local area and had to write down where they were. One was a tapestry on the wall in our local library and only 3 people got it right even though all of the people doing the quiz were regular library goers. ha ha
Sounds a great quiz. We used to have a quiz where there was a section on local land marks & familiar local sights. It was always a popular section. The winners used to set the questions for the following year but of course because they were the winners out if about twenty tables they had to lower their sights to cater for all levels. Too hard & its no fun….difficult to strike a happy medium!
The red coat pops & the sign suitable severe!
I like your idea for a novel quiz. I know what you mean about making it too hard. Peter used to do quizzes for a group I belonged to. Sometimes they were too hard and/or they couldn't understand his Geordie accent!
That sounds like a really fun quiz! I hope you'll be able to find that happy medium where it's not too hard but people really have to think about where they've seen the clue. I like the red coat here too- that would have also caught my eye.
@yorkshirekiwi Don't think I've ever seen poo on the course, but I have had my ball taken by an off-the-lead dog, who also put it back on the fairway for me! ;-) However, walkers are usually less well behaved than dogs, to be frank! Some obviously don't play golf, and have no idea how bad, or off-target, some shots can be, or even from which direction they may come!
@johnfalconer I think you're right in my particular case. My friend thinks they're all just fine and will make people think. At the end of the day, they're not supposed to get them all right, or get them too easily! And they do it in teams, so I think my quiz is fair game!
The quiz should be fun. Not so good to have it too difficult, but just enough so the one who guesses correctly feels like she's done something special.
