I thought this was a fun photo to share after all the celebrations of this weekend. An old photo of dad's - dad (on the right) and his pal Alistair Brown, both aged 20, celebrating the Queen's Coronation in a Marquee Tent at the Drum of Wartle. A couple of years after this, Alistair and his wife were mum and dad's witnesses when they got married. When this photo was taken, however, mum and dad hadn't yet met. :-)
I love this! Handsome fellas. My Dad was in Suez and remembers the radio broadcast being interrupted to announce the arrival at the summit of Everest of Hillary and Tenzing!
Oh what a fabulous shot.
I remember the Queen's coronation. We had just got a television and I was only 4 years old but all the neighbours were at our house watching it on the screen.
A fantastic photo of your handsome dad & his friend. They look a carefree pair & so young to get married! Of course we did get married younger in those days but your mum& dad must have had quite a whirlwind romance.
@happypat They did indeed. They met in Aberdeen just after dad had finished his National Service. They were married 6 months after meeting. Dad was 23 and mum was 21. I have the 21st birthday card that dad gave to mum and the first Christmas card he gave her. Mum had kept both of them.
