On Monday I visited the RSPB site at Fowlsheugh, just south of Stonehaven, with the hope of finding some puffins, or tammie norries as my Shetland mum always called them. I adore their comical and colourful faces and seeing them automatically makes me think of mum.
There were thousands of nesting birds on the cliffs at Fowlsheugh, but I only spotted two puffin couples. This guy was guarding the entrance to the burrow for quite a while. I did see mamma puffin pop out for a moment and then they both returned to the burrow and stayed there! I'm so happy to have got one decent image - albeit with a 400mm lens and zoomed in too.
A favourite of mine that I was never able to capture in the wild! Ken, Pam and I were in Newfoundland, and it was only Ken how had the agility to climb to where he could see them. You captured an exquisite photo with a story to go along! @pamknowler
I so like these entertaining birds..
I love the name your mum gave them. "tammie norries"
