We were all watching the Humpback Whale on the starboard side of the boat when two suddenly appeared on the port side sending everyone dashing across the deck, fumbling with camera controls and jockeying for position along the rail. I caught this one taking a deep, steep dive, sending its fluke (which is between 10’ and 15’ wide) high into the air while a Tufted Puffin looked on.
We observed so many magnificent creatures on this 6-hour cruise of the Gulf of Alaska from Seward. Humpback Whales, Orca (Killer) Whales, Sea Otters, Horned Puffins, Dall’s Porpoises, and Steller Sea Lions are just a few of my favorites!
