I’m thankful for the gift of time spent with my daughter. Last Sunday, I attended a glassblowing class with her; and it was really fun yet really so much more about spending time with her than it was about the pumpkins that we made! We laughed as we fumbled with the blowpipes, chose our colors, and tried not to get burnt (or burn anyone else). By the end of the class, we each had created two pumpkins and memories that will last a lifetime!
I’m dedicating November to giving thanks! For years, I’ve kept a gratitude journal in which I jot down things that I’m thankful for. During this month when we’ll celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, I’m going to take my gratitude for God’s good gifts one step further by photographing a particularly meaningful gift each day for my 365 project! I've always viewed the subjects of my images as gifts, but I'm looking forward to this month of intentionally labeling them as such. This will enable me to spend a bit more time dwelling on God's goodness and offering the thanks that He deserves. If anyone would like to join me in this celebration of grace, please do! I’ll be tagging my images: all-is-grace.
And whenever you look at these in the future, you will remember this day with your daughter - as will she - and smile at the fun you both had. I am impressed with your finished product - fancy work with those little curly tendrils - I particularly like the lighter one.
@lyndemc Thank you so much, Denise! We had quite a bit of help from the instructor. He, in fact, created the tendrils as that step was very tricky. We were surprised to learn that the molten glass is over 2,000 degrees, and we had to let the pumpkins cool for 3 days before we could take them home. It was a fun, fascinating class; and we plan to go to more of the classes offered there!
@cejaanderson Thank you for the comment and fav, Jane! We had lots of help from our instructor. It was quite a fascinating process, and we look forward to attending more classes!
@skstein Thank you so much, Sandy, for your kind comment and fav! The instructor was right there beside us through every step of the process of creating these pumpkins. He actually created the curly tendrils as that was a step that took quite a bit of practice, and he had 9 years of experience making pumpkins!
@milaniet Thank you for commenting, Milanie! Yes, we will always recall the experience fondly. We had such fun! I cannot take credit for the tendrils as the instructor formed them. He had 9 years of experience, and we had none; so I feel safe in saying that the tendrils would not look at all this way had we formed them ourselves. Everyone loved choosing their own colors. There were an endless number of options since the colors could be combined in an endless number of ways! :-)
@olivetreeann Thank you so much, Ann! The instructor really guided us along and did the more difficult tasks like forming the tendrils. They offer additional classes for creating paperweights, swizzle sticks, and much more. Can't wait to attend another class! :-)
@ckwiseman Thank you for commenting, Carolyn! Yes, we will always treasure our handmade pumpkins and our memories of the special day we spent together!
