Sun beams in through different windows depending on the time of year; and here in late February, sun beams-and-I-mean-beams in through the windows in the back of the house every afternoon like there’s no tomorrow. Yesterday, I just happened to enter the kitchen with camera in hand while a brief shower’s water droplets dazzled like so many diamonds on the window above the big sink. Here's to late February afternoon sunshine!
Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.
- Henry David Thoreau
Viewing this on black has me standing right there again, Godstruck.
Beautiful light through the window and I love that quote. I didn't know much about H D Thoreau before our visit to Walden Pond in November 2014. A day that will always be etched on my memory as my husband ended up going into the freezing water to rescue a young woman who was drowning. An incident that made the news! It was a surreal experience that we still think of often. We hope the poor lady got the help she needed and is in a better place today.
@paulaw Oh, my! What a wonderful thing for your husband to do, Paula! He is clearly a very special man. I'm so glad that he and the woman emerged safely from the water. I can see how that day is still a fresh memory. What a scary experience for all. Thank you so much for commenting. I enjoy reading Thoreau. I'm glad you enjoyed the quote.
Thanks Janet. The strange thing was we had altered our travel plans at the last minute to come back via Boston and we had actually missed the turning for the parking lot. By the time we realised and turned around it was almost dusk. I was excited about taking some late afternoon pics and was happily snapping away when we heard a strange noise coming from the water. At first we thought it was a duck splashing! We often think we were meant to be there at that precise moment! It was very cold though and when my husband dragged her out she was unconscious. Myself and another local lady covered her with out coats, hats and scarfs and tried to talk to her until the rescue services arrived, which was fairly quick but seemed like an eternity! Then they found baby clothes in her bag so thought there might be a baby in the water. Thankfully there wasn't! We heard from the rescue services after that she was alive but in quite a bad way! As I said before, please God she got the help she obviously needed.
You are right about this being especially wonderful on black--the sparkles really come alive. Definitely a fav for me! Paula @paulaw , I was just reading your story of what happened at Walden Pond--what an amazing rescue by your husband! I hope the poor woman got help, and if a baby was involved somewhere in her story, that the baby is ok too.
@paulaw What an amazing story, Paula. I do believe you were meant to be there that day. God surely knew the goodness in both you and your husband and that you were the perfect couple to help the poor woman. I find myself praying for her even though I don't know her name. I pray her life is a much happier one these days. Thank goodness your husband was okay after being in the cold water! I can only imagine how frightening the whole thing must have been.
This tells a story.Love the lighting you have captured and you composition. So interesting to read of Paula's story as well. Firm believer that things do truly happen for a reason.
