Who knew that the 8th Annual Punkin Chunkin Contest was being held October 19 in Clayton, New York? We didn't. So we set out for a nice lunch and an afternoon of browsing the little shops in this charming North Country town. Thousands-and-I-mean thousands of people, police directing traffic, and sparse parking soon adjusted our thinking. Let's join the crowd and watch them chunk punkins into the St. Lawrence River instead! How could we not? In absolutely glorious weather, each team would load their punkin into their hand-built catapult, listen for the announcer to blast the horn, and then launch their punkin. Splash!!! The punkin that traveled furthest would win; but a "chunk off" had to happen this year because of a tie! Eventually, a winner was declared. Laughter, smiles, jokes — you name it — happiness all around!!!
I praise you, Lord, for the absolutely glorious, hilarious afternoon!
Very cool. Sounds like your outing experienced an unplanned surprise but sounds like a good one. I loved your story. I hope the traffic and crowds weren't too much of a problem.
