"Do you fancy a trip out butterfly hunting?" asked my friend.
Daft question of course as the disused quarry, now a nature reserve, is an insect hot bed and home to many orchids too. Saw my first ever Bee Orchid yesterday.

@joev Thanks, Joe. I really like Marbled Whites they are so very photogenic and this shot will be printed as my very favourite MW image - until a better one comes along!

@koalagardens This is the nice side of the internet, isn't it, to be able to share wonderful experiences and sights (and sites)? Butterflies are my passion, much as Koalas are yours.
Hubby & I are heavily involved in the creation of "Tomorrow's Ancient Wood-Meadow" a barley field now full of young trees, 200+ species of plant and a number of invertebrates only Andy can keep track of. Today as I was approaching the car, I saw something fluttering in the long grass which to my knowledge had never been seen there before - our first Marbled White. I am one happy old lady!
Many thanks

I'd like to be able to double fav this one. How extraordinarily beautiful! In our local nature reserve where there are lots of wild flowers we get lots of marbled white. They sometimes even venture into my garden which is nice.
@julienne1 What a wonderful comment, Julliene, thank you so very much. You have MW in your GARDEN!!! How marvellous is that?
Hubby & I are involved in the creation of "Tomorrow's Ancient Wood-Meadow" after 6 years there are hundreds of invert species. A few weeks ago I found the first Dingy Skipper. On Friday I found the first Marbled White and last evening on an overlooking Oak, a Purple Hairstreak. A poor, very distant photo, but proof!
As for MW, I think their underwings are so glorious and always try to get at least one shot when I go MW hunting. This image will be printed & entered in our village photo comp at the end of August.
Thank you again

@shepherdmanswife Many thanks. They were sleepy and stayed in that position allowing me to contort myself to get what I think is my MW shot of the year.
