Wasp carefully removing a very thin strip of wood from the fence to create the nest. A completed nest can be as big as a basket ball, as my old shed learnt. They'd built inside the door but because I didn't bother them, they didn't bother me. In autumn the nest was empty and I took it to St Nicks Nature Reserve for display.
I found this tiny starter nest on the ground last year, it had been abandoned so I was able to save it, a beautiful delicate creation.
