My get pushed challenge set by @aleksandra was shots taken using ISO 100, Shutter speed of 15-30 sec, F 16. Ironically the hardest part of it for me was staying awake long enough for it to get dark! I took a few in Eugene on Thursday night but I really didn't like them. So last night after getting home late, unpacking, having dinner, I gathered my gear and went back down town to where there are lights. I wonder why I got the star only on the one light?
The starred light flare must be because of the angle of light to the lens, as opposed to the steeper angle of light from the closer lamps. Just guessing, tho.
Very nice long exposure! I have a hard time with them because somebody/something always tends to walk by/drive by, or my cat rubs up against the tripod! haha!
The star effect might be because of distance too. There is a star flare on each light, but the stars seem to be more prominent the further away the light is from you.
Wonderful shot! And fabulous light star! One thing I noticed about shooting the moon was - the brighter the moon and the smaller my aperture, the better the star. I should try this out how it works with other light sources. I suspect that distance has also something to do with it and perhaps the size of the light... tricky!
I'm enjoying these challenges and watching people getting pushed! I've seen some remarkable photos - and this is one of them! The lighting is beautiful, Jane! I'm surprised there's no one on the boardwalk at this time on a summer's evening!
You've a couple of stars in here! It's a beautiful shot - I will make a note of those settings for when it gets dark earlier! I assume you need quite a pinpoint light for the star effect but I'm not sure this is backing up my theory!
Thanks for pushing me! I definitely need some inspiration to photograph something other than my boys! Looking through your album you have lots of gorgeous nature shots and have a great talent for capturing living things. My challenge to you is to use a long exposure to show movement. Good luck!
You can do anything that you want as long as it shows movement. You could do smooth water, animals, insects, people, cars, light trails, etc... This is not the best photo, but here is one I did of my boys playing around me... http://365project.org/egad/extras/2012-05-01
Let me know if that doesn't make sense.
