herons nesting by jgpittenger

herons nesting

Worth viewing large I think. They were a long way away and the sky was gray and branches everywhere but I was excited to see herons nesting already. There were 5 or 6 nests in the same tree. It looked as if part of the mating ritual is stabbing at each other with their beaks. It looked as if they were bickering.
There will probably be fillers for several days here because I'm sick and also trying to pack for Hawaii! (Poor me!)
fantastic, love the processing -- and thanks for sharing the shot with all the herons in the trees -- amazing!

Great capture of them, they almost blend into the tree. Certainly have huge beaks. Hope you feel better soon.

Interesting mating ritual! I remember, as a child, being thrilled when a heron would visit the river which ran at the bottom of the garden. Then in later years after my father built a pool in the garden, I didn't like seeing one in case it caught the fish in the pool. This is a lovely capture! I hope you'll be better soon!

That's a great shot of the duo! In the large version I can see how sharp the eye is, and circled beautifully by the twig. I love the spiky wet feathers on the one!

Those long beaks look like they could be lethal weapons!
