The egrets are beginning to show up at the rookery. There aren't many yet and they are hard to get good shots of because of all the branches, but this lady had me laughing as she scratched and stretched. SUch magnificent birds. Ther will be more in the days to come though I am not yet satisfied with any of the shots I got. I wish this roostery was closer to home
@pflaume I have a sigma 200-500. It is very heavy and not (for me) a good walk around lens but I love it for birds especially when I can use it on a tripod (which this wasn't) it's also fun for moon shots
Oh but you've got so much detail. I'm worried about our nesting birds - they got all frisky a couple of weeks ago but now they are allow just trying to survive. And there are parts of the country that have lost thousands of pregnant ewes under the snow. Our freezing spring (now forecast till the end of April!!) has all sorts of repercussions.
Looks like she is arranging her nest to suit her better. It must be wonderful seeing these massive birds at close quarters Jane. Our poor birds are just trying to survive , I think nest building is way down their list of priorities!
This actually reminds me of my scratching deer shot from a month or so ago - might be a weird theme. Anyway, this has such a beautiful arch of wing. A lovely nature story.
Ooh, I never knew about the green around the eye! I didn't even see that in your other shot. This photo is terrific not only for that, but her posture is echoed so well in the angle of the different branches around her!
