And of course, the survival of the species depends on it. Best viewed large. Finally on my fourth try, driving an hour each way, I got to this spawning ground when the salmon were doing their amazing last act. To imagine that a creature, who is probably the equivalent of what we are at 80 years old, has the endurance and strength to swim up river to deposit eggs for the next generation is mind boggling. I feel truly blessed to have gotten to see and photograph these beauties. You may see more in the days ahead.
