I wish I could train her to pick up the plastic that comes ashore. It is shocking and disheartening to see how much there is. On the other hand she always makes me smile!
Thanks for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs
This is great on black. Nothing I love better than the days on the beach with the dogs, but yes the amount of plastic is horrendous. Our marine life suffers terribly, so I’m glad we have the SOLV clean up twice a year and I applaud those who volunteer to pick up plastic and debris year round.
A great shot of Pearl. We obviously have the same issues here as we have many beaches around the Peninsula. There are regular cleanups advertised for the different beaches. It is amazing how many people participate, it has become quite a ritual 😀
Lovely, energetic Pearl. So many tiny plastic particles, I cringe and pick up when able and avoid most plastics in my day to day living. Our poor planet :(
Apropos beach rubbish, there have been several articles in papers here about the problems of particularly plastic rubbish and cigarette butts washing up on Australian beaches. In the southern part of Oz it's definitely the local population, but a survey of brand-names on plastic bottles on northern beaches showed that the vast majority come from countries to our north. The problem gets worse by the day, and our pollies are very slow (glacial?) to act.
@hrb73@ludwigsdiana@chloette@taffy@golftragic we do have twic3 a year beach clean ups here and many of us pick up plastic when we are walking on the beach but it is so horrid what it does to the sea life...and us as well when we eat fish. When will we ever learn?
@jgpittenger You and I have learned as have many other environmentally conscious people, but all our efforts are thwarted by the lazy, ignorant and commercial interests. Quite depressing. In our local park the council, in their wisdom(?), decided that the only rubbish and re-cycling bins needed in a park a kilometre or more long would be placed up one end of the place. In the process they removed three lots that were evenly spaced out. As you folks would say, go figure. I've written to the council, never even had a reply. Democracy in action. Bah, humbug.
Such a lot of driftwood - and you say plastic too. It must be a very interesting stretch of beachfront. Pearl seems to be in superb condition - and having fun here! :)
Yes, the plastic is a real problem. And balloons. WE have turtles swimming out in the bay not 10km from where I live, and so many die by ingesting popped balloons. So glad you have Pearl to keep you entertained. Maybe I should consider a dog as my kids grow older...
