Best on black. I've been experimenting with using a different focus area for shooting birds and birds in flight. The jury is still out. I got lots of shots to throw away! But I thought this pesty stellar jay was pretty smart looking.
Thanks for your visits comments, suggestions, favs
@365karly1 to me his eye is well focused. The focus area I was speaking about is...in the past I’ve used a small area focus attempts get it on the eye, with the most recent firmware update for my Sony camera there is a new “focus area” option which is tracking small to large. I watched a video by a trainer who specializes in Sony cameras and he suggested wide area tracking for bird in flight. I’m not sure I like it yet but figured I’d try it out
@jgpittenger Yes, the eye is in focus. So maybe it will be easier to get a good focus with your new method - I always struggle to get a good eye focus.
I wish we had them here - have seen them in Colorado years ago and though pesty, they sure are pretty. Personally, I don't see how you could improve on his focus - it's terrific.
I love the Stellars' Jay - Your shot is gorgeously crisp with that fab shallow DOF. Like your porcessing as well - making him subtly pop against that railing. Wow!!!
I'm afraid I simply cannot comprehend how you can make your bird shots any better :) but whatever it is you are trialling this is a great shot. Is the bird maybe slightly softer than usual - but still with wonderful detail.
Nice capture! I recently went to a zone AF for capturing birds in flight. I only use it if there is no distracting background. If they are in the sky, there is a better chance of getting sharp images using zone AF. I am able to change back to single point pretty quickly if I need to.
@moonmtn it has tracking wide, medium and small. I’m still experimenting to see what I like best. Do you find it different with bigger birds than say finches than say hummers?
