Whimbrel at the Beach

My birder friend and I walked on the beach and found this cool bird. A curlew or some such, she guessed. Anyone know? (Thanks to @carolmw I now know it is a Whimbrel.) Again, I wish I'd had my long lens so the focus could have been sharper. I like the lift of his foot and the tones with him and the driftwood

Super capture,Jane!! I checked my RSPB book,this bird is a Whimbrel. I hadn't heard of it before,but it's smaller than a Curlew,and has a buff bar above the eyes.
