Our next photo club competition theme is "outdoor fun". Since you all helped me with last months competition such that I came in 2nd, I figured I would ask again for help both with choice of entry and any suggestions you might have for tweaking it. This is from my hike yesterday with my son and two of my wonderful grandchildren. This is an upside down Rachel.
What do you think? I will post a couple of other options in the days ahead.
That's a beautiful sandbox, but since your theme is "oudoor fun" it might be better to crop tighter to show more fun and less landscape. I don't mind having both of them in the photo. After all, they are both part of the fun.
I like this one the best. I think it evokes a feeling of "family fun on the beach". A tighter crop would cut into the shadow, which I am not a big fan of...just a quirk of mine. I like the blue sky and sand dunes a lot.
I see that you shot these photos in the midday sun which produces harsh light and has the effect of darkening and flattening your subjects' faces. If you had in shot in early morning or in the evening during the golden hour, the light might have had a more flattering effect.
@vskolnik I totally agree re light at more friendly time of day, but my son is a doc and getting any time with him at any time of day is a treat! I also agree re cutting off the shadows...a thing of mine too. That's why I didn't crop it in closer in the beginning. I love getting everyone's ideas and opinions, though
