Common Murre Preening by jgpittenger

Common Murre Preening

Still working through glitches with my new hard drive so I'm posting photos from a few days ago. These birds are lucky to survive. They nest on big rocks in an area where there are lots of bald eagles and seagulls. The murre parents get spooked by the predating birds zooming towards the babies and simply move aside! Someone needs to give them a parenting class.
Thanks so much for your visits, comments, suggestions, favs
Great focus on this beautiful and unknown to me bird. Some birds sure need parenting classes. We lose so many different chicks to crows here.

That's a pretty harsh survival technique! You have caught him at such a strange moment - I've never seen any of our ducks do a roll over like this to groom.
