I was out in my kitchen and Two was trying to see something outside. (She is the best bird spotter). I saw a cardinal I the trees. I didn't dare go get my tripod from the car so I attempted hand held with my new lens. I think I did okay. But it had a lot of noise because I turned the iso up. As usual your feedback greatly appreciated. The class I took the teacher suggest Noiseware. Has anyone used it. By the way this is a female cardinal. There was a sparrow out there and some little bird stole a seed and flew off before I could even spot him with my eyes enough to identify. OH I see lots of bird pictures this fall.
@vignouse. The pictures I took this morning and the pictures of the bird came out dark. So in both cases I needed to hand hold so I upped the iso when I had opened the aperture and still weren't happy. Thinking my brain is missing something you taught me so a quick relesson please.
@joansmor I don't think it looks noisy, but I do see what looks like some reflection on the bottom left under the bird. Were you shooting through glass? I take it you were since you were inside. :) I learned a trick yesterday about putting your finger on the glass to get the camera as close to it as possible without touching the glass. It worked well. The tiger was through grimy germy glass.
If you are shooting in RAW format (very very highly recommended), in camera RAW there is a noise reduction section that is simply superb.
Love this shot too, I have the same problem in lower light and have to bump up the ISO.
@kt8ird I talked with my sister @janiskay and we thought at what you were seeing was where the bark was off the tree. But then I see these lines and I am curious if that is what you mean but I don't know what would be reflecting as I don't have vertical blinds. So I just went to look but it's getting dark. Think I see the lines though. Anyway I will try your trick when I can. I stupidly had the hood on. I'm not fast on my feet when it comes to this.
@joansmor I'm on my ipad now and see nothing. Weird. I like this even better on the ipad! I wonder if my desktop monitor is messed up. My computer is upset with me for uploading too many photos.
Lovely shot Joan, it looks sharp to me. I have used a free version of Noiseware and didn't mind it but I now use Lightroom and Nik software which both have noise reduction so I haven't used it for a long time.
I also love the textures and moss on the branch the cardinal chose to sit on.
Is your bird feeder finally paying off? Great shot! I do love bird shots and this is well done. Nice composition and lovely detail and you caught the catch light in her her eye which makes them come alive in photos. I'm not seeing a lot of noise here. Fav for me.
@barbarajdonnellan Thanks, yes getting more birds. Always knew
I'd get more traffic in fall but by putting it up in summer it became established. Hoping it saves me this winter.

I could capture pictures like that! Great job! Fav
