The birds are active lately. I was sitting watching them and trying to get pictures when I noticed a sparrow tear a flower of the tree and eat it. I don't ever remember witnessing this before so I looked it up. Yes fruit trees are a delightful meal for sparrows. Well my tree is a full out feast. I
Beautiful capture- love the tilt of his head. We're looking through the bird books and think it might be a Lawrence's Warbler- hard to tell for sure since you can't actually see the markings around the eyes. And if it is you've captured a fairly uncommon but not unheard of warbler. Good shot!
@joansmor she seems so yellow for a female goldfinch- I'm used to seeing them more olive-green in color. But it could just be the lighting playing tricks on me.
This is delightful and an instant fav. Especially lovely as I saw very few birds whilst away last week in an area which is almost exclusively cereal growing. Great to be back home where we have so much wild life...not to mention Chania & Mitzi!
I don't think gold finches have the black on their front neck. The male goldfinch has black on top of the head. This looks like a blue-winged warbler which in my book says it is replacing & interbreeds with Golden-winged Warbler which has the black throat. Don't know much more except it sure is lovely the way you've captured it with these lovely branches and blossoms. well done.
@sailingmusic Hubby and I read the same about Lawrence's Warbler. Interesting how these lovely little chirpers can really throw us for a loop when trying to figure out who they are! hehe
@olivetreeann@sailingmusic I think the Lawrence which Cornell nLab says is a cross between the two Myrna mentioned. Going to keep my etes peeled. I had just assumed finch.
@joansmor That is very cool! What a beautiful bird. The angle was deceiving but after looking at the link and the photos there- absolutely agree- an Orchard Oriole!
