PMAE No 184

Magical day spent at Shoshone Point while at the Grand Canyon. I had never been here before but will again and again and again. This point is not marked on the rim drive but is known as a prime wedding location. It is a very easy 3/4 mile hike in to a serene and peaceful spot. Very highly recommend it.

This is a eastern view from the point towards Shiva Temple (A huge temple off Tiyo Point on the north side at 7,650 feet. Named by Clarence Dutton after a Hindu God. Considered unclimbable, it was believed the plateau was cut off from the rest of the plateau country for as many as fifty thousand years and would yield unique species of plants and animals. Scientists from New York's American Museum of Natural History climbed in Shiva in 1937 only to find three empty tomato cans, two kodak film canisters, and a tissue with lipstick on it left by Emery Kolb and party. The party included Emery, Gordon Berger, Ruth Stephens, Ralph White and Edith Kolb.). The Kolb brothers were an institution at the canyon for years ( https://www.grandcanyonnews.com/news/2017/jul/11/amazing-kolb-brothers-grand-canyon-celebrates-adve/ )

@haskar Thank you so kindly for the fav. This spot is just magical, it has a 180 degree view of the eastern end of the canyon.

@deborah63 The tree I believe is a Pinon Pine and was half dead but was still full of so much life and character.

@eudora Thank you a great deal. The point is so special since it isn't populated like the other parts of the canyon rim.
